Opel History

By 1929 until 2017, Opel was owned by American automaker General Motors. Opel vehicles have been sold in the United Kingdom under theVauxhall brand.

Opel traces its origins into some sewing machine makerfounded by Adam Opel at 1862 in Rüsselsheim’m Main. The company startedmanufacturing bicycles in 1886 and produced its first car in 1899. Followinglisting in the stock exchange in 1929, General Motors chose a vast majoritystake in Opel and then total control in 1931, demonstrating that the Americanpredominate within the German automaker for almost 90 years.
